Water Heaters being the necessity of every home is used frequently for various purposes. Whether we talk about kitchen or bathroom, a water heater is required wherever we use water the most. But using a water heater leads to big electricity bill. And to help you all, here we will be giving you a few quick tips to save on water heating costs.

1) Lower the temperature

Lower the temperature of your water heater to at least 120°F, because, for every 10ºF reduction in the temperature, you can save up to 5% of your water heating bill.

2) Daily routine habits

• Habits play a very important role in saving money. When you switch on a water heater for the purpose of getting hot water, then switch it off immediately after use. If not, then there are instant water heaters in the market that can solve your problem, as they only heat water (uses electricity) when you turn on the tap.

• Take short showers instead of baths, yes, it may sound weird but doing so can save a big portion of your water heater bill as a hot bath in a lavish bathtub consumes more hot water.

3) Don’t let the water run

Never let the water run while brushing your teeth, finding soap or the time when water is not in use. All these extra minutes add up to a lot of wasted water. Always turn off your tap and don’t let the water run unnecessarily.

4) Use cold water for laundry loads

Use cold water for the purposes where hot water is not needed, for example, you can use cold water for most of the laundry loads.

5) Fix leaks immediately

A leakage in the water heater may seem to be common, but one drip per second can add up to 259 gallons of water per month that adds a lot to your electricity bills. Thus, fixing a leak instantly is really important.

7) Insulate the hot water storage tank

Insulate the first few feet of the cold and hot water pipes that are connected to the water heater. Be careful not to cover the thermostat while insulating the electric tank, and do not cover the water heater’s top, bottom, and burner compartment in oil hot water storage tanks.

8) Install a timer in the water heater

Install a timer in your water heater that turns off at night or the times when the water heater is not being used. You can also use the timer to turn off the water heater during utility’s peak demand times.
